Choosing Living Room Sofas For Your Lounge

Home Improvement,Interior Design
Choosing living room sofas is not the same sort of task as choosing dining room furniture or bedroom furniture. The fundamental reason for this is that people tend to purchase sofas individually, while bedroom and dining room furniture tend to be purchased in sets - so they match!

When purchasing a sofa, therefore, you have first to decide whether or not it is important that the sofa matches the rest of your living room furniture - or at least blends in with it. Before pursuing this argument further let's discuss one or two examples of sofas available online.

Choosing Living Room Sofas: Examples

One furniture company offers an 88 inch long 3-cushion reclining sofa in brown leather. This is a magnificent reclining sofa and likely offered at a magnificent price, but price is irrelevant to our discussion. This would appear to suit any living room in any home in the USA. But is it? If the rest of your living room furniture was in black leather, would you feel comfortable with a new brown leather sofa?

Probably not! Now let's consider another sofa, available online from the same online furniture store that markets the sofa above. This is standard sofa, 68 inches wide and also with 3 cushions. This one is not leather, but is upholstered in a beautiful white fabric. Some may believe the color, or lack of it, to be impractical, and this might be the case, particularly if you have young children in the house.

However, this would offer the perfect contrast to your black leather furniture, and certainly more suitable than the expensive brown leather recliner. Two or three chairs and sofas in black leather flanking a beautiful dazzling white (for now) sofa would look pretty impressive, and many might even adopt this style after reading this!

The point being made here is that when choosing living room sofas for your lounge, or any other room for that matter, you have to have an eye for design and what would go well with your existing furniture. People purchase dining room sets and sets of bedroom furniture, but not living room sets as such. So keep that in mind as you read, and particularly when the time comes for you to purchase a new living room sofa or even a chair.

Comfort and Style

We have yet to mention comfort, and it is debatable when discussing living room furniture whether style or comfort is the more important. It is likely the latter, but with style a close second which makes the choice harder. You often have to visit a showroom to try a couch by sitting in it, although many do successfully purchase sofas online.

As you are likely aware, sofas come in many styles, fabrics, materials and colors, and you consequently have a wide range from which to choose the one that suits you the best. Before you even get that far you first have to decide on what type of sofa or couch you want.

Do you want a sectional corner unit, to fill in that empty corner between the sideboard on one wall and a central door on the other? Sectionals are useful in that you arrange them as you wish, and you can change the way they are put together from time to time. We have already mentioned recliners that are worth their weight in gold in the evening if you do hard manual work or are on your feet most of the day.

Maybe a loveseat would be appropriate - if you are a single guy looking for something more intimate to offer than two single chairs. This is no more than a two-seater sofa (the smaller the better). There are other options that are covered by the term 'sofa', but you get the idea. In fact, you will likely already know what you are looking for once you have made the decision to buy a living room sofa.

Size is Important

A sofa can take up a fair bit of room in a lounge, so you should make sure you have the room to accommodate your choice. That fabulous 88 inch recliner might catch your eye in the showroom or even in the photograph online, but once you have paid for it and had it delivered to your home, it might look just a tiny bit bigger. An 88 inch sofa is 7 ft 4 inches wide, and then you need the room either side of it.

You don’t get much change out of 12 feet once it has been installed with walking space all round. Four long paces, so make sure you have that available in your living room - many people find that their eyes are larger than their lounges when it comes to sofas.

When choosing Living Room Sofas visit the Woodstock Furniture Outlet in Atlanta, Georgia. You will find wide range of Atlanta Furniture to help you design your living room with matching sofas and accessories.
