The longer a person has a pet, they no longer consider them a pet but a part of their family. They go through great lengths to address all of their canine needs, making sure they have a healthy and happy life. Pet owners do many things to ensure they are healthy, free from sickness but sometimes they can't be prevented. When dog skin problems occur, they are the first indicator that there is something wrong and the cause needs to be investigated. Involved pet owners notice when their dog's behavior changes. They notice when there is a lot of scratching, biting and a foul odor. They normally make a note of this behavior and as it continues, they know there are different things that can cause dog skin problems. A common cause of dog skin problems are untreated allergies. Dogs can be allergic to different things and many times they can be found in their diet. Dogs have to have a balance, nutritious diet to support their immune system. When they don't, they can develop many problems that will weaken their immune system, keeping their bodies in an unhealthy state. Dog skin problems can also be caused by seasonal allergies. Dogs can also be sensitive to the amount of pollen, dust mites and other things that are in the air. When it is found they have seasonal allergies, just as humans, they will have to take a daily allergy medication. One of the most irritating causes of dog skin problems are fleas. Fleas get onto dogs and begin to burrow and bite into their skin. Dogs that are infected with fleas lick, scratch and sometimes bite their skin constantly for relief. When they are constantly doing this, they could damage their skin and that could lead to infection. Dogs with fleas have to be treated. Just because a person has a dog doesn't mean they are familiar with the many dog skin problems that can happen. These are owners that do notice a change in their dog's behavior. When they notice certain things, they normally know there is an issue that has to be addressed by their veterinarian. Constant scratching is one of the most common signs of dog skin problems. The scratching can be followed by licking or biting a part of their body all day. There different places dogs normally scratch but if it is all centered in one place, owners should be concerned. If this scratching and biting takes place for more than one day, concerned pet owners should take their pets to be seen and diagnosed by their veterinarian as possible. Veterinarians see many cases of dog skin problems and they know how uncomfortable and painful they can be. They try to quickly diagnose the cause and get the dog's in treatment to give them relief. There are different ways that these causes can be determined. They can use a skin biopsy to look for infections and they also look to their diet to see if there is an issue.
