How to avoid being cheated... Anyone who runs their own business OR who is self employed (or both of course) will know what it is like to have people try to con you. The more you are in a position of trust or authority the more it happens and the more money you have the more it happens. And the formula for this is very simple. Just put yourself in the position of the person or persons making this offer to you and imagine what you would do and think if you were them. For example, let us take the door to door guy who is offering to decorate your front room for you at a very cheap price. If you were good at decorating and you had clients already who appreciated your skills would you spend all day going around knocking on doors? Surely that would be a waste of a day, a day you could have spent working for a customer you have who pays you? Surely someone who is popular would already have clients they can work for? And surely a better way to get clients, if you are reputable, is to put an advert in the local paper or Craigslist so that you can get on with earning money rather than losing a whole day to maybe picking up one lead? And, why would someone who is popular and skilled work half price? They would not be interested in offering such a cut price deal. You see where I am coming from? The trouble is that in peoples' effort to get something for nothing they turn off their brains and avoid looking at these obvious signs. They are so keen to get someone doing them a cut price job that they do not see it from the point of view of the guy offering the work and what is or is not in it for him. So they pay this guy for the cut price job, he runs off with the cash or does a terrible job, and they are back to square one only they have also spent money. They are actually worse off than they were before. The same thing applies to the so called psychics offering free readings! They have no qualifications, no pedigree, no reputation, many of them are part timers who have not been doing it long and very often their only talent is setting up a website. Yet because they say they are psychics and say they are offering to work for free people rush to them. Then they get a rude awakening when they find that the so called free reading is only five minutes and it is telling them they must pay for a very expensive service or they will never be happy. Or the "reading" was done by a housewife who is useless at doing readings and tells them things that are totally wrong. But why expect anything else? Nobody who is popular and good would be willing to work for free in the first place!
