Would you like to improve your writing? Would you like your readers to think of you as an intellectual or smart individual, therefore trusting your words, opinions, and information more than they might any other piece of information on the Internet? If so then I recommend that you improve your vocabulary. Most writers have a decent vocabulary, and those writers who are voracious readers tend to have the best and largest vocabularies, depending on what they are reading. But let's say you are new to writing and nothing you've done seems to work, you want to use bigger words, but all that does is slow you down because you are constantly looking through the thesaurus and dictionary to learn those words as you go. This can really hamper the writing speed to get assignments done, and cause you to lose your train of thought as you are writing, but I have a better solution, and this is one that I've used and it works quite well. Consider this a new trick of the trade which I stumbled upon by accident, trying different things through trial and error. Read 5-pages of a thesaurus or of the dictionary each night before bed. When you find a word that you think intrigues you, and you'd definitely like to use it in your vocabulary write it down. Try to make word lists, and combine the words rather than by a definition or topic arrange them by sound and alliteration. Yes, you can also arrange them by meaning and synonyms. Then recite these for 3 to 5 minutes each day by pasting a 3 x 5 index card on your mirror when you brush your teeth and hair. Perhaps you might recite them before you take a shower and then think of them while you're taking a shower, and then read them again while you are drying off and brushing your hair. This has worked very well for me, and I've been able to replace words in my vocabulary, and I've had a lot of fun doing it not only with my writing but also in the real world. There are a lot of advantages to having a larger vocabulary. For instance let's say you go to the counter at Starbucks and someone asks you "how are you today?" Rather than saying the standard answer; "Fine" - why not try euphoric, ecstatic, or effervescent. It's amazing how small changes in your vocabulary can make your writing looks smart, intelligent, and that of a true expert writer. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it. biology essays
