A number of companies now offer convenient single brew packs called K cups. The majority are types and roasts of coffee but there are also k cups for tea, hot chocolate and hot cider. When placed in the brew machine the top foil seal is punctured. Using precise temperature and pressure the water is released into the k cup to brew and pass through into the waiting cup. There are a diverse availability of flavors, roasts and blends available to choose from. Why is single cup coffee making so popular? At the top of the list is the speed of preparation. For people with limited time to have a fresh brewed cup of their favorite coffee or tea in less than 60 seconds is helpful in getting out the door on time. No need to remember to prep the coffee machine at night, another time saver. We have to mention the easy clean up as a benefit.. K cups keep their used grounds or product perfectly encased in the plastic cup so no more messy filters or pots to wash. For households that have multiple coffee drinkers it's a dream come true, each person gets their own brand, flavor and roast. Having your coffee just the way you like it no matter what your partner wants is a great reason to consider single brew systems - coffee is a personal experience. I read one review where the writer was flabbergasted to learn that for the last 13 years his wife never did like the way he made coffee but simply tolerated it because as she said, "It wasn't worth the effort to say anything." Don't be surprised if your partner suddenly seems to like something different than you thought they did. To start out with this system you might want to try a variety pack with multiple brands and flavors, or just purchase two or three it's up to you. It's great, one cup at a time. Are They Really More Expensive? Many think this system is expensive but when it comes right down to it we figured out that it's about the same or cheaper because we aren't throwing away a half a pot of coffee anymore because it burned or got cold and stale. In addition take into consideration the value of your time to empty messy grounds, clean the pot and prep it. More or Less Many think this type of brewing produces more caffeine per cup than full pot preparation. I checked around and found that acup of coffee brewed in single cup method has between 75 and 150 mg. of caffeine per cup. About the same as full pot preparation. This varies from one type of brewer to another as well as the type and grind of coffee being used. Espresso contains between 30 to 50 mg., significantly lower. This article was focused on the antioxidant benefits of caffeine and it's ability to fight damage caused by free radicals. For people who drink coffee this is the richest source of antioxidants in their diet. Reduction of the risks of diabetes and cardiovascular disease is a side effect of long term use according to well cited information on Wikipedia. They also mention that some studies suggest caffeine minimizes the cognitive decline seen with aging and might because of the presence of acetylcholine increase concentration and memory. Reduction of the risk of certain cancers, reduced risk of Parkinson's, type 2 diabetes and hepatic cancers are other benefits mentioned.. Caffeine overuse produces serious health risks especially in those with specific predetermination to some health issues. Research this for yourself and check with your doctor.
