Titleist's Mark O'Meara captures Dubai Desert Classic

Blogs,Sports
Competing against a strong international field in the desert heat, Mark O'Meara returned to the winner's circle for the 24th time in his illustrious 24-year professional career. The Titleist brand ambassador relied upon the Pro V1 golf ball and a full complement of Titleist golf clubs en route to a one-stroke victory at the Dubai Desert Classic.

In addition to the Pro V1 golf ball, O'Meara's tee-to-green choice in equipment includes a Titleist Titanium 983K driver (9.5), Titleist Pro Trajectory 980F 3-wood (15.0), Titleist Forged 680 irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist prototype putter.Rory Mcllroy

O'Meara fired a final round 3-under 69 to clinch the title at 17-under 271, a stroke better than his four-round playing partner and Pro V1x player. Sharing third place at 13-under par was another Titleist staff player and World No. 3 Ernie Els (Pro V1x), and David Howell (Pro V1x), both former winners who gave Titleist players each of the top 4 positions on the leaderboard. O'Meara's win marks the fourth for Titleist on the 2004 PGA European Tour.

Champions Tour Ed Fiori earned his first Champions Tour title when he topped fellow Titleist Pro V1x player Graham Marsh with a par on the third playoff hole at the MasterCard Classic. Fiori, who was seven strokes behind through 36 holes, rallied with a final round 5-under par 67 to earn a position in the playoff at 6-under 210.

Canadian PGA Tour Chris Wisler (Pro V1x) captured the rain-shortened Barton Creek Challenge that was reduced to 54 holes following a washout on Thursday. Wisler fired an 8-under par 62 in the first round and finished at 11-under, one better than fellow Titleist player Adam Short. Wisler's win follows up last week's victory in the Barton Creek Classic by Pro V1 golf ball player Brad Sutterfield, to give Titleist players a sweep of the season-opening Texas swing of the 2004 Canadian PGA Tour.ping golf clubs

Worldwide Wins Three more victories this week increase Titleist's year-to-date victory total across the worldwide professional tours to 19, more than all other golf balls combined.

PGA Tour Titleist Pro V1 player Scott Verplank reached a playoff at the Ford Doral Championship, but was topped by his playing partner who holed a 6-iron from the fairway for an eagle on the first extra hole (18th hole). Both players finished at 17-under 271. They were followed by third and fourth place finishers Retief Goosen (-16/Pro V1x) and Joe Durant (-15/Pro V1x), respectively, and K.J. Choi (Pro V1) and David Toms (Pro V1) who tied for 5th, giving Titleist 5 of the top 8 finishers. Titleist players have won six of the first 10 events on the 2004 PGA Tour compared to just 1 for the nearest competitor.Mizuno

Goosen is Golden Retief Goosen (Pro V1x) extended his season-long streak of par-or-better to 21 straight following a final round 6-under par 66. Goosen closed out the 2003 season with 8 straight par-or-better rounds, which pushes his current streak to 29. In five stroke-play events this year, Goosen has racked up four top-10 finishes and is 73-under par during that stretch.
