From the year 2011 UPSC has introduced a new pattern and syllabus for the UPSC civil service examination in order to recruit eligible candidates in the officer rank vacancies in different departments and ministries of the government of India. As per the latest UPSC syllabus the preliminary examination will consist two papers of objective type multiple choices questions and carries a maximum of four hundred and fifty marks. One of these papers is of general studies and previously the candidates were free to choose the other subject according to his or her own choice.
