Golf Magazine has conducted a survey of more than2,000 avid golfers, asking them 135 questions about golfing habitsand desires. It’s all part of “The Report on the American Golfer,” acomprehensive study. The first snapshot is published in itsSeptember issue, and offers some interesting views:European Tour David Duval received the most votes (42 percent) when askedwhom they would prefer for a male playing partner. He was followedby President Bush (25 percent), comedian Billy Murray (23 percent)and Michael Jordan (10 percent). Those surveyed said it would take temperatures over 107degrees and under 41 degrees to keep them from playing. For female playing partners, the first choice was Nancy Lopez(52 percent), followed by Karrie Webb (25 percent), Cindy Crawford(18 percent) and Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (5percent).Golf Driver City If they had only one round left to play, 70 percent said itwould be at Augusta National or Pebble Beach (35 percent each),with 15 percent going to St. Andrews, and 2 percent playing PineValley. The other 1 percent would play their home course. Only 37 percent said they would trade places with Tiger Woods,while 45 percent said they would trade places with the playerranked 200th on the PGA Tour money list.Cleveland Driver If they could ban one thing from the golf course, 37 percentsaid it would be slow players. Cell phones came in at 34 percent,followed by foul language (13 percent). Arnold Palmer showed why he’s the King. Out of 12 choices, 29percent picked him as their primary golf idol. Jack Nicklausreceived 18 percent of the vote, while Woods was tied with “Noneof the above” at 13 percent.
