Another course that will help students be highly productive in the industry is a course focused on spa therapies. Day spas and destination spas list massage therapy as a high demand practice. A course like this will teach students how to provide a relaxing massage as well as effective spa and clinical massage therapies. Courses and programs will vary in cost depending on the school and program selected. Some schools may have tuition priced at $275 per credit hour. Most schools list the registration and textbook fees as a separate price. There are many schools that require the students to purchase their own table, towels, oils, etc. so students have these items upon completion of the program. To graduate the educational establishment the students have to pass two primary certification exams offered in the states that regulate the practice of massage therapy. Some states offer both exams as a basis to practice, while others only offer one exam. Students have the choice between two certification exams, the NCETMB or the NCETM. The students can be prepared for such exams in the course of the studies. Both exams contain material learned from courses taken over the duration of study. Content areas include general knowledge of body systems, detailed knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, therapeutic massage assessment, application, and professional standards that relate to the different aspects of a business. The exams usually consist of multiple-choice questions that are based upon the common requirement of 500 hours of instruction that will prepare students for the exam. As of 2009, all but eight states offer licensure requirements that meet one or both of the exams. To find out if a state has regulating laws on massage therapy contact the states' county government. It is obviously that training in massage therapy becomes a highly demanded practice that will surely provide certified graduates with a fulfilling career.
