Breast cancer has emerged as one of the common diseases of women population around the globe. Due to increased breast awareness among women, effective breast screening programs and extensive treatment options there is a significant increase in the survival rates of women.

Importance of Breast Awareness
Breast awareness can be defined as understanding of breasts which includes the details of structure, size, shape, skin type, color of skin, normal position of nipple etc. It helps women taking care of her breasts in an effective manner to reduce the risk of developing it. As the women who are breast aware better understand that how things contribute to increase or lower the risk to be affected by this disease. Awareness of breasts helps detecting cancer earlier as well because breast aware women are familiar of what is normal and abnormal for them.

They can observe untoward changes, as soon as they take place and it is of great assistance to treat it successfully as it does not take much time to spread to the other parts of the body. When breast cancer affects other parts of the body, the chances become minimal to control or cure so every possible effort should be made not to let it happen. Self examination is of great assistance to women in order to enlighten awareness so it must be the part of regular breast awareness routine along with the clinical examination and mammograms after the age of 40.

There are so many instructions for women to reduce the breast cancer risk there must be something for those who have been diagnosed with this dreadful disease that how can they survive this cancer.

2. Surgery should be chosen to remove the cancerous tumor from the breast. There are different types of surgery and depend on the type and stage of cancer. This choice of surgery depends on the personal choice as well because it is associated with the appearance of women also.

3. Radiation oncologist should be consulted to use radiation therapy to prevent recurrence of cancer. According to studies if women go for radiation therapy it reduces the risk of recurrence by 70 to 80 %.

4. Chemotherapy is also important to reduce the risk of breast cancer recurrence. In this method a drug is used to interrupt the rapidly dividing cancer cells and it can be used in conjunction with radiation therapy as well.

5. Hormonal therapy is proved to be so effective for some kinds of cancer like the ones that are tested positive for hormone receptors.

Women should have enlightened breast awareness in order to play their role for early detection of cancer and they can take better care of their breasts if they are breast aware and it can be done by doing regular breast examination.
