Books are critically important for kids. Reading books to kids is one of the best ways to help them to not only learn the language, but also to stoke their interest in learning. That's why being a children's book author can be so rewarding. You are helping to influence and bring up the next generation of kids. Nowadays, you can find children's books practically anywhere. Book stores, discount outlets, grocery stores, libraries, and more - all are places where you can easily pick up a book for your child. But books for children were not always so easily accessible. Long before the existence of libraries or the invention of the printing press, stories were passed on verbally from one generation to the next. And, even today, many cultures use stories to teach morality and to pass down lessons of their culture. Story tellers have been an integral part of every culture that has existed on the planet. And, today, the children's authors are our modern-day storytellers. But children's books have not always been popular. In fact, it wasn't until the librarians in the early nineteen hundreds were successful in convincing publishers that there was even a market for children's books that publishers seriously considered putting out children's books. Fortunately, one company, the Macmillan Publishing Company, did take notice and opened the first children's department in a major publishing company. It became a resounding success and was soon followed by other publishers opening their children's departments as well. Since then, the publishing of books for children has been one of the most profitable divisions of most publishing companies. It used to be that, if you wrote for children, publishers would limit you to a few child approved subjects such as etiquette, religion, and culture. Today, however, there are relatively few constraints as to the subject matter. You can find children's books written for subjects as diverse as sexuality, love, war, politics, and more. Writers may be constrained as to how they present the subject matter, but not by the subject matter itself. Many people think that writing for kids is easier than writing for adults. You don't need to know as much vocabulary, the books can be shorter, and the concepts simpler. But, if you are an adult, one of the hardest things to do is to get yourself back into the mindset of a child so that you can write the types of stories that interest them. And the fact that very few people can effectively do this is what makes writing for kids so difficult. essay faq
