O2 have recently announced a new smartphone the o2 XDA Atmos – a Windows Smartphone with pretty typical features, but a not so typical keypad layout. Now o2 brought one of the first Windows smartphones to the market back in 2002 – the original o2 XDA, so they obviously know what they are doing in the smartphone area. However, the only thing that really sets the o2 XDA Atmos out from the rest of the smartphone crowd is the slightly crazy keypad…or should that be keypads? The o2 XDA Atmos has a slide out qwerty keypad for the traditional typists out there, but it also uses up some of the front panel to add a normal mobile phone keypad. There is no doubt that the styling of the o2 XDA Atmos will appeal to some people as it means the phone can be used as a smartphone and a normal phone seamlessly. But I do think that there will be quite a few people who will not like the fact that the screen has been made smaller to allow for the second keypad, it is just 2.4 inches compared to the 3.5 inches on the Apple iPhone. As for the other features, we are just in pretty standard territory, 2 megapixel camera, microSD card, Windows Mobile 6, push email, Microsoft Office and a whole host of connection methods including HSDPA, 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and EDGE.
