You don't think there's really one way to write, do you? I didn't think so. But a lot of people do and that's why they get writer's block. What is writer's block? Think of it as a misunderstanding, or maybe a miscommunication between you and your creative process. Imagine your creativity, ready to spill forth with new and exciting images and concepts, and you locking it into a small box of "shoulds" and "rules." Your creativity isn't obedient. It's feisty and mischievous and ready to break the mold. This is the part of you that doesn't like rules. Creativity likes breaking old ones and making new ones. When you tell it "You must help me finish this chapter right now!" or "We're on a deadline! Get with it!" - your creativity won't. How Creativity is Like a Toddler Ever try to get a grumpy toddler to behave in a restaurant? Then you know what I mean. When my daughter was a little and intent on having a hissy fit while dining in a fine eatery, I did what most parents do and took her outside. She stopped annoying everyone else in the place, and I gave her a chance to run around a bit, or at least to finish up with her tantrum. I gave her some freedom, rather than trying to get her to conform to an adult standard of behavior. What's the Opposite of Writer's Block? Think of a time when your words flowed onto the page in such a way that it almost felt like someone else was writing through you. You were in the flow, in the zone where your creative self had the opportunity for full expression. Those are the moments we writers dream of having every day. But more often than not, day-to-day pressures and demands fill our minds when we sit down to write. We don't get out of the way of our own creativity. Trying to control your creativity is a recipe for writer's block. Being in a creative state requires that we let go of our worries and give up some semblance of control. But that's exactly what you need to do if you want to write effectively with what time you can devote to writing. Release Your Creativity Let your creativity loose. Forget the deadline (at least for a while) and stop trying to make it behave. Give it a chance to look over your project and find a place that looks fun and interesting. If you follow your creative energy, instead of your grownup rules for achievement, you'll be amazed at how cooperative your creativity will become. And, I'll bet that, in addition to making yourself and your creativity much happier, you'll also meet that deadline. buying research papers online
