Why to Avoid One-Size-Fits-All Website Design!

Designing efficient websites that give a company the best results can be challenging. Not only does it need to incorporate good visual design and usability, it must also provide enough quality information to a retain a visitor as well as secure favorable SEO results in the process. Along with design, usability and quality information are other features that should be developed to ensure that a web page continues to attract new visitors.

The main goal in the creation of any website is to attract as many visitors as possible, which means using search engines, social media and other online methods. In addition to these aspects, some other methods should be considered to further expand potential opportunities, some of which are listed below.

Basics

The creation of a well-designed website worth being visited is obviously the first requirement to increase the viewing audience. As mentioned previously, the layout should be efficient and visually pleasing. There should be easy to use menus, a good About page and navigation links at the bottom. All of these items are very important in keeping people happily exploring a website.

Content

Article content should always be correct, well-written and informative in order to provide reader value as well as be search engine optimized. Images should not be too large or too numerous so that pages will download quickly. There should also be captions and sub-headings in help summarize the articles for rapid scanning. In addition, visitors should be able to contact the webmaster either through comments, contact forms or some other means.

Specific Approaches

Besides the general web page ideas listed above, businesses selling specific products can utilize a few more specific, traffic-generating approaches that provide good value as a way to keep people coming back.

  • Product Description - This should be complete and accurate so buyers will know exactly what is being offered without too many additional questions. Providing comparisons to similar products is a nice extra that can be helpful as well.
  • Secure Shopping and Rewards - Shopping carts should work correctly and be secure so that customer will feel safe about providing billing information. As a bonus, offering loyalty reward programs, free products with a certain amount of money spent or referral rewards are usually well-received. Providing the ability to buy or send gifts or gift cards is very beneficial to shoppers because of the convenience factor.
  • Target Audiences - Understanding target audiences and how to reach them should be researched and used strategically. It might involve anything from the appropriate placement of advertisements on other websites to utilizing social media to its fullest. Contests, giveaways and polls just increase visibility as does sending out a regular e-letter to a mailing list created through a sign-up on the homepage.
  • Blogs - Of course, adding in a blog to offer some behind-the-scenes views and connect with readers or customers is a very popular addition to a website; however, if this is done it must be continuously updated with fresh content.

    While some of these ideas such as design and SEO would likely require the assistance of a good web design company, many are actually quite simple and easy to implement. The creation of a great website involves careful selection from the above elements to arrive at a design that best suits the needs of that company; this is a place where one size does not fit all!
