After several years of providing different types of cameras to people, Konica Minolta finally ended their stint. The company was moved under Sony Management. After the transfer, Sony A100 was introduced in the market. In spite of good digital camera ratings made for Sony A100, people wanted more from Sony. To satisfy the consumers’ needs, Sony finally came out with their latest offering, the Sony A700. Sony A700 looks almost like the A100 units. It still embodies the characteristics of the A100 designs. Despite this fact, the developments of the A700 units make it more competitive with other digital camera brands like Canon and Pentax. The latest design has new technologies that are not found in the previous models introduced. Sony A700 now has a 12.2 megapixel APS-C ‘Exmor’ CMOS. Compared with the previous design, CCD function was moved to higher level which is the 12 MP CMOS sensor. The unit has an on-chip A/D conversion which helps in minimizing noise and providing better speed. Another feature is the Bionz Image Processor. Working together with the ‘Exmor’ sensor, the new A700 can now take images with the speed of 5 frames per second to 18 raw 12 MP files. Moreover, it also possess high speed shutter with the top speed of 1/8000 sec and Sony is quoting that the A700 unit can have 100,000-shutter cycle life. Further, this gadget also has an anti-blur feature. Because of the refinements made on the Super SteadyShot CCD-shift stabilization system, this model can now deliver 4 stops advantage. The captured images also have higher magnification and better brightness which is brought about by the optical pentaprism viewfinder. According to digital camera ratings made on Sony A700, this model weights lighter than the A100 designs. Its aluminum chassis and magnesium body is also 3 times stronger than A100. The design of A700 includes sealed buttons and levers. This is to protect the unit and its internal parts from dust and moisture. It also has a bigger and finer LCD monitor. Compared to other units, the A700 has a 3.0” monitor which gives wider viewing angle. It also has 922,000 pixels with a resolution of 267 ppi. The model has an HDMI terminal which allows full 1080 HD output and 16:9 ratio shooting option. This feature is compatible with Sony’s PhotoTV HD viewing. Sony A700 comes with wireless remote control that allows the user to manipulate it from afar. All of the features, except for the shutter release, are controlled with the use of the remote control. The shutter release function only works with the remote control when the camera is attached to a television. Images are saved through the memory sticks and compact flash storage units of A700. This is different from other digital cameras because most have only one of the two, unlike the A700 which has both. If you try to research and compare digital cameras in the market, you will find out that there is always a definite feature that is identified to each digital camera. The Sony A700 is best for those who find its features competitive. In spite of good digital camera ratings made for Sony A100, people wanted more from Sony.
