Paul Azinger apologised to Tiger Woods for not giving him a better game as the pair walked along the 17th fairway in the final round of the Memnorial Tournament. “I’m sorry I wasn’t a better player for you today,” Azinger told him. Woods replied with a shrug of the shoulders but it would not have made any difference. Whatever the former US PGA champion had produced after his six-week break away from the game, during which he had grown a full beard, you feel Tiger would have found a response to claim the title for the third successive year. The turning point had come at the fifth hole where Woods had trailed Azinger by a shot. After an awesome eagle in which he hit 2-iron 250 yards over water to within six feet and holed the putt he walked off the green leading the tournament by two. Woods went on to win by seven with a 17 under par total and a closing 66. Azinger finished in a tie for second with Spain’s Sergio Garcia on ten under par. Even Jack Nicklaus, the host of the event since 1976, was awestruck as he stood beside the 18th green waiting to shake the hand of the man who has dominated the latest generation of golfers, just as he had in the 1960s and ’70s. “I just marvel at this young man,” he said, aping a remark once credited to Bobby Jones. “I am not familiar with this guy’s game! “Certainly since I’ve been playing the sport I’ve never found anyone who dominated more. “In other sports guys have dominated, but I don’t think anyone has dominated like he has.” Understated as ever Woods remarked: “It feels good to play good. It was made by the putts I made; I played very solid.” After a week’s break he heads to Southern Hills to defend his US Open title and a bid to claim his fifth successive major. Thirteen more and he will have overtaken the Nicklaus haul of 18 in the professional game. 910 D3 G20 MP600 This article is from http://www.golfflying.com/ Also, We recommend some good top golf clubs to you.
