One of the truly forgotten treasures when you rent a private jet is the ability to order food from the restaurants in any city. Catering on a jet is often good and consistent, but can be overpriced. Mainly it is due to the fact that the staff has to purchase every ingredient for an order. At Perfection Air Charter, our suggestion is that when you book a jet, think about one of your favorite restaurants in a city that you are in or that the plane is repositioning from. How about having BBQ from Kansas, or Cuban food from Miami, or lobster from Maine, or ice cream from Graeter’s? It is an option. With private jet travel, the food is usually prepared offsite from the FBO at a kitchen where it is packed and then delivered to your private charter. Therefore, timing is an important consideration. If you are booking a jet with only a few hours to arrange, then your choices are limited to those items the chef has in the kitchen and that can be expensive. Most of the time when you charter a jet, the catering cost is just passed on to you without any additional fees. There was a client who looked at his catering bill and asked about the fifteen dollar peanut butter sandwiches. He said that for that price, he could have had Wolfgang Puck make the sandwiches for his children. We sent him the invoice from the catering company and it matched exactly what we had given him. Our response was next time; we probably should have these ordered from Wolfgang Puck where he might have peanut butter, jelly and fresh bread in their kitchen and the catering staff does not have to go out and resource it. Good resources for food are sometimes local specialty shops, like cupcakes from Big Man Bakes when you are chartering a jet from Los Angeles, Sprinkles when you need a jet in San Francisco, or your favorite New Zealand water from Whole Foods. Also, why not ask for Johnnie Walker Blue or Gold to be chilled with dessert glasses on your next business charter.
