Can you imagine a child thinking about suicide? Well, there have been a few cases where the children were on the ADHD nonstimulant drug called Strattera. Just one of the many bizarre and worrying ADHD drug problems. That was about eight years ago when the FDA had to insist that all the pharmaceutical companies should put on the maximum black box warning. The same applied to the well known psychostimulants suchg as Ritalin, Vyvanse and Concerta. You may wonder why they were forced to do this and it is simply that there were cases reported of sudden death, suicidal thoughts and hallucinations which were reported in what is, admittedly, a very small percentage of children who were on these drugs. Now you might think that all these ADHD drug problems would mean a drastic reduction in the number of prescriptions for them but the exact opposite has happened. ADHD is overdiagnosed and there are far too many children who are put on these medications as the first and only option. That is now recognised by most medical authorities. All we have to do is to look at the European view where the diagnosis is based on a completely different approach and the number of ADHD cases are actually very small in comparison with the USA. There are so many problems associated with these drugs that I do not know where I should start. The first concerns the fact that nobody is quite sure how exactly they work on the child's brain. They are mostly stimulants which have the effect of calming the child down. That is because there is an increase in the supplies of norepinephrine and dopamine which are responsible for paying attention and staying motivated. It is a paradox but if it works, don't fix it, seems to be the motto of the drug companies. It is a pity that the drug manufacturers cannot solve the problem that these stimulants act on the central nervous system, the brain and the heart. That means that sleep and appetite patterns are disturbed and that is why the most common complaint is that children never get enough sleep and even have stunted growth. Isn't it time that we started to think outside the box for a change so that we can look with a balanced approach at what else is on offer. There are herbal remedies and there are also other natural ADHD remedies such as homeopathy. Homeopathic ADHD remedies are enormously popular because there are simply no ADHD drug problems such as the ones that we have mentioned above. They are also completely free of side effects. Are you worried about ADHD drug problems and all the side effects that are reported and maybe many more that are not? It is high time to take a fresh look at ADHD natural remedies. Robert Winterson has written on ADHD and mental health problems for many years.
