If you read the Bible, there is a part of the book of chronicles that speaks of David, the Levites, and making music. David is well-known because he was the small boy who managed to beat the enormous giant. You should know that David is also a king and one of the things that he ordered his people to do was to make the best kind of music that they possibly can. Nowadays, music is heavily used when people go to the church to worship God. Without music, there will be a void when it comes to the activities done in church. The thing about music is that it starts preparing people for their encounter with the Lord through prayer. What most Christians fail to remember, however, is that creating music for the Lord is also a command. When it comes to music, this is something that you have to make an effort on, period. You do not have an option not to participate when the music plays especially when you are in the church. When King David told his priests, the Levites, to make excellent music, he had a serious reason for doing so. They had in possession the Ark of the Covenant. When you read the Bible, there are verses that pertain to the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant on their shoulders in the way that Moses has commanded them to. Reverence is something that should be present when the ark is present because the ark is God's presence in the world. Aside from offering joyful sounds to the Lord, King David also instructed the priests to consecrate themselves. When people come before the presence of the Lord in worship, they should offer God praises and lift up their spirits through Christian music. How did the priests consecrate themselves and what kind of music did they offer? For the priests, they consecrated themselves in such a way that is in accordance with the orders of Moses. In the Bible, God's laws are written and every Christian should follow these to a T. First, what are the right offerings to make and second, what music fit the bill? For one, you need a lot of different instruments to play this music. Since it is for the Lord, the music needs to be full of life. If you read the book of Chronicles, you will see how lyres and harps were accompanied by bronze cymbals. While the melody played, the priests dealt with a lot of singing. For these people, they really knew what they were doing. The thing about worship through song is that it calls for a certain amount of effort from the worshipper. Rehearsing church music matters tremendously because of this particular thing. On a global scale, church musicians have turned to professional work since the type of music that should be played in churches has to be produced professionally. Christian music has become an important music genre that is recognized by mainstream music industries in the United States and elsewhere in the world. While church people are singing "Amazing Grace", contemporary singers and "un-churched" people all over the country are singing "Jesus Take the Wheel."
