Although the smartphone market seems to be dominated by one name Apple, there are many others out there offering phones that are as good as the iPhone. The Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 runs the Android operating system and gives you access to thousands of free applications. The Sony-Ericsson Xperia X10 Unlocked Phone is sold by AT&T and operates in dual mode, its quad-band GSM 800, 850, 1800 and 1900 MHz mode, as well as its 850, 1900 and 2100 MHz Edge/GPRS mode through HSDPA/UMTS. The X10 run the Android operating system that offers one access to thousands of free apps that support Android-based devices. It is true that Apple's iPhone 4S does offer nearly 500,000 apps, but the key difference here is that you must purchase them through the Apple App store and they lock you tightly into Apple's proprietary operating system iOS5. The X10 is small and lightweight 2.5 inches by 4.7 inches by 0.5 inches. Its four-inch screen offer and enhanced palette of colors and great contrast so that images appear bright and text seems to leap out of the screen. The screen also offers an onscreen QWERTY-style keyboard that makes texting easy, although the letters are not quite big enough to permit touch-style typing. This means one has two options for texting or creating memos or emails and that is using two- or three-fingered typing or thumbing. It's more than likely that you'll end up using a combination of two- and three-fingered typing and thumbing, depending on the mode you are in. For example, if you are writing a long email - the X10 access standard email and Exchange mail - then it's likely that you will use two- or three-fingered mode, while a quick text or IM will be thumbed into the X10. Network aware, the X10 recognizes WiFi standards 802.11 b/g /n which means that it will work with older networking devices and routers while it will also search for WiFi hotspots. This allows one the advantage of finding a hotspot in any of the many cities and towns where WiFi networking is growing and it means that one is seldom out of touch with the Internet. That, though, is the purpose of this smartphone, which driven by the 1 GHz Snapdragon processor. And, when you add in the total of 32 GB of memory that the X10 can use, you have a very powerful smartphone available. One thing one is sure to note is that since the Android operating system level is at least 2.1 or higher, there are thousands of apps available. Many of those apps enable social networking. For example, there are apps available that enable one to take advantage of Facebook or Twitter and there are other apps that let one stream not only audio but video. The 1500 lithium-ion battery offers at least 8 hours of talk time and up to 415 hours of standby time. The X10 offers not only a USB interface, through which one can charge the battery, as well as upload and download data or images.
