Many parents are under the false impression that an ADHD child's diet can only be marginal and they prefer to concentrate all their energies on giving their children the right medication with the optimum dosage. These are the easy ADHD treatments, according to them. But maybe these parents have not read about schoools which made radical changes to their school lunch menus. They found that the reduction of processed foods and the increased use of bottled water had a marked effect on the kids' behavior and learning abilities in the afternoon classes. |
Results about what exactly is in processed food are quite alarming . It seems that the amount of pesticides is increasing all the time. Researchers have found that when children's urine samples were examined, they found that residues from the pesticides were quite high. In fact researchers at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine found that when kids were given organic food, the levels of pesticides fell by as much as 90%.
An even more alarming fact is that the levels of pesticides in children's food has a direct bearing on whether they are going to suffer from ADHD or not. Canadian researchers found that those children who were given processed foods containing these pesticides were found to have a much higher risk of developing ADHD. Many vegetables contain the toxic organophosphates and this seemed to double the risk of kids getting ADHD. This is why it is so important to look after our children's diet.
These pesticides are all over the place and not just in the vegetables that we eat. The Environmental Protection Agency has now said that we are exposed to about 40 of these pesticides every day through some foods which are highly processed and which use GM corn or soy. As this was not enough, we are exposed to them in our drinking water and also when we use them in the garden. There is no escape!
The other myth about easy ADHD treatments is that parenting is not so important but rather marginal. More research on this has shown in the UK that those children with ADHD who were brought up by parents using behavioral techniques had a much better chance of growing into well rounded and responsible members of society. The other children who were exposed to rather haphazard parenting were much more at risk of falling foul of the law and ending up in a broken relationship.
As we have seen, easy ADHD treatments do not exist as it is a complex area. In this article, I have pointed out the importance of diet and also behavioral therapy or basic parenting skills. Many local authorities are investing in programs like these to help parents with ADHD kids. The parents soon realise that the so called easy ADHD treatments using psychostimulants is pure fiction. Looking at easy ADHD treatments which rely on medication alone is liable to failure. Choosing a multi pronged approach using ADHD natural remedies is much more likely to succeed.
