THE Captain of Stackstown, Gerry Carter, was the talk of the club last weekend –until a certain member named Padraig Harrington hogged the headlines. Gerry, a 9-handicap, was playing in the Monthly Medal on Saturday and was going well when he arrived at the par-three sixth hole. Gerry swung his three-wood and connected beautifully. The ball soared into the distance, but he didn’t see the outcome, as it’s a two-tiered green. “Fergal Harrington, one of Padraig’s brothers, and his playing partners were coming off the green and next thing they ran back to wave and shout and tell me the ball was in the hole. It was amazing. It was my first hole-in-one at Stackstown,” he said. The ace was a great boost, but by the time he and his group reached the 14th the torrential cloudbursts had forced play to be abandoned. He smiled wryly as he said: “The heavens had opened and I was disappointed to have to stop because it was the Medal, we had a huge field, and I was going really well.” Gerry’s mixed fortunes were definitely good news for the members. They may have lost out on their competition, but they were all in the clubhouse for the captain to buy a drink to celebrate his ace. “It was great to get a hole-in-one but it all paled into insignificance with Padraig’s win — that has been brilliant for all of us,” he said. x-24 razr x ap2 712 This article is from http://www.feelvimgolf.com/ More vim golf at http://www.feelvimgolf.com/
