Guerrilla Review Because I recently had a schizophrenic vision of Ernest Hemingway encouraging me to pursue my interest in being a successful professional writer I have decided to give it a real good go. The Cosmic Ethers in my everyday life blew a copy of Guerrilla Marketing For Writers my way so that is where I will start. I want to learn to self promote my writing and perhaps the writings of friends I have met through the Internet who strike me as particularly talented authors. This book, which was recommended to me by a Nurse who has successfully used the Guerrilla Marketing system to increase profits of her businesses apart from her nursing work, is just one application in the Guerrilla Marketing set of books. I expect the system to work as well for me as it does for her. The introduction to this book is titled "Why You Need This Book And How To Get The Most Out Of It." Under the heading "Only You" it is stated that your writing and your writing career are about you, first and foremost. "Your passion, your books, your career, your ability to overcome adversity, your willingness to promote your books, and your potential as a writer and a human being are all embodied in one unique individual:"you." On Our Premises Guerrilla Marketing For Writers assumes you want to (1) build a successful career as a writer. That you (2) want to sell books yourself or through an established publishing house. That (3) you know little or nothing about publishing and promoting. That you (4) want the several rewards of being a successful author. And (5) that you are writing adult fiction, or nonfiction or children's books. Guerrilla Marketing For Writers uses elements of the general Guerrilla Marketing system in combination with techniques successful writers have used for many years. Its ability to promote children's books is not as strong as its ability to promote adult fiction and non fiction, according to the authors, but is never the less very effective for children's literature. A What-To Book This book is not a how-to book. It is a what-to book. It wants you to be aware of how very important promotion is to your books and your career. It wants to show you the full range of free and low cost marketing tools, called "weapons" by the authors and how to use them to be successful. The authors say that "Guerrilla Marketing For Writers will help you promote your first book, but the value will grow with every book you write." It becomes more powerful as you go. Ultimately, how well you conceive, write, and PROMOTE your book will be the big difference in the results you get. Are You Fiction Or Nonfiction? These two types of writing are very different in some ways and require somewhat different marketing strategies. The non fiction writer has to more heavily work interviews, talks, and in store promotions that fiction writers must do. And he must pitch himself to publishers not an artist but as someone who knows how to sell books. Non fiction writers do not have to be as skilled as artists as fiction writers. The non fiction writer has to have good ideas that people can use to solve a problem or to understand something. Artistry is not the important thing here. In this book the lists of weapons and their order of importance on the lists is different for the two types of writing. "Thinking Like A Guerrilla" is simply the systems way of getting the most out of your money as you promote your work. Most of the tools taught here are free. So that's it for the Introduction to the book. I plan on writing more about this system for any interested readers who might want to take this journey with me.
