A Xiamen female white-collar worker independently set up an animal shelter for 21 homeless dogs in a 600-square-metres factory building, despite opposition from her family and friends. The animal shelter, called Corn Field Animal Rescue Station, was established by Zhang Linli in June this year. Ms. Zhang said she has kept 21 stray dogs, and in order not to affect her neighbors, she specially rented an empty factory building outside Xiamen Island to keep the dogs. Ms. Zhang said she became a ‘professional dog rescuer’ after she spent 1,000 yuan to save an ill stray dog in 2005.
