Asynchronous motors or AC (Alternating Current) motors or induction motors, are devices where the power for operation is supplied by an alternating current (AC). The supply voltages in an alternating current supply vary together in such a way that it periodically reverses its direction. This alternating current is represented by a sine wave. The power is supplied to the motor through electromagnetic induction (current is produced across the conductor when it passes through a magnetic field) and it does not consist of brushes and commutators to supply current, as it is in the case of DC. These motors help in avoiding unnecessary issues caused in the starting of three phase motors. • AC Servo Motors –These motors are in fact two phase motors that have high speed, heavy gear and low torque. AC servo motors are used to drive large machines in industries and employed for other commercial purposes too. These motors are also used as power amplifiers. The resistance in this motor is kept intentionally high to help maintain a linear relationship between the speed and torque. Alternating current motors are also used in devices such as in televisions, elevators, fans in our personal computers and many other industrial applications.
