Running is said to be the best exercise in the world. It's free, doesn't need any equipment, and anybody can do it whenever, wherever. No wonder marathon running continues to grow in popularity all over the globe. But for every person who is in it for the healthy perks (like a more regular blood pressure or a lower glucose level, perhaps), there is always that one runner who is in it for the aesthetically inclined benefit-shedding off those excess pounds.

Any physical activity that requires exertion is guaranteed to deliver weight-loss results when said activity is done regularly for a long period. Running is among the many physical activities, but what makes this exercise tick is that there seems to be no end to the dashing from Point A to Point B.

An individual who has just picked up the exercise, for starters, runs for three kilometers. Having conquered that distance, the individual increases the amount to five kilometers. Five becomes ten, ten becomes fifteen, and so on. This is why marathon running activities don't ever seem to slow down. There is always something to challenge every runner. The thought of making progress is exciting, and excitement is a good source of motivation.

People who have just ventured into the world of running report speedy weight-loss results in only a few weeks of mild to moderate activity. The supposed lightning-fast results added to the sport's hype, but this isn't completely true. The sudden drop in weight is due to the loss of fluids, not the flab that turned into excess baggage over the years.

Slowly but surely is the way to go for permanent weight loss. Small steps are the key to success. Those who want to join marathon running events can do so by being a runner in the shortest-distance category first. While it's tempting to rush, it wouldn't do the body any good. Regular exercise should be a lifelong thing, and burning out too early on reduces the chances of sticking with the activity in the long run.

Running is only a part of the weight-loss process. A nutritious diet and overall good health habits are also crucial elements to shedding those excess pounds. Participate in marathon running events, but also drink lots of water, get enough sleep, and immerse in optimism.

Remember, a runner is a healthy person inside and out. Nobody can run and be wasted at the same time. Run for the right reasons.
