Staff & guests of the Anchor Head Hotel (part of the Leisureplex Hotel Group) welcomed some surprise visitors to join in with their Jubilee celebrations. The new Mayor and Mayoress of Weston-super-Mare Councillor David Hitchins and Mrs Carol Hitchins stopped by to enjoy a champagne reception and gala dinner before going to Uphill to light the Diamond Jubilee Beacon. Mayor Hitchins gave a speech and toasted the Queen before spending time socialising with hotel guests and sitting down to a special four course jubilee gala dinner which included dishes in the spirit of the occasion such as Coronation Chicken and Queen of Puddings. Hotel Manager Janet Day said "It was a great honour to host the Mayor &Mayoress on such a special day, it really added a sense of occasion to the evening and the guests loved meeting them both and what better way to end the day than to be on our very own patio watching the beacons be lit from Brean Down to Uphill " The Anchor Head Hotel is splendidly situated overlooking Weston Bay and close to the boating slipway and a small beach; the promenade walk starts right next to the hotel. Attractions include the magnificent re-built Grand Pier, dancing at the famous Winter Gardens and top class cabaret and big name stars performing at the Playhouse theatre.
