Some diseases are curable and the rest are fatal and incurable. It is advisable to get a yearly check up done to avoid falling ill but there are a few diseases that are genetic or hereditary which you can’t avoid. Diseases like diabetes, thyroid, asthma, hemophilia, cystic fibrosis, etc. can be passed down from parents to children. Another disease that is very common and hereditary is arthritis. This degenerative bone disease has been a huge concern for many years and doctors and researchers haven’t yet found a solution for this disorder. Many bone defects are still waiting for a proper solution. For many years medical science has been waiting for a stem cell treatment for a bone defects. The world is still waiting for that break through. In the meanwhile, many have injected BMC or bone marrow concentrate in a non-operative procedure which has proven helpful for many. The dream of engineering healthy tissues with the help of stem cells is a dream that is waiting realization. Researchers of the Genetics department still have not figured out a way to de code or understand the dynamics of stem cells completely. A stem cell is the ‘main’ or embryonic cell which can produce any other cell in the body. Stem cells can be induced to become organ or tissue specific cells with special and specific functions. In bone marrow, stem cells regularly divide to replace the worn out or damaged cells. In other organs stem cells divide only under special conditions. Since, bone defects need tissues that will replace worn out and damaged tissues, stem cells would be ideal to cure it. In the absence of tissue engineering, BMC is an option that works quite effectively for bone defects or degenerative bone diseases. Work on stem cell technology is in progress and the world is waiting with bated breath on when the researchers will come up with the right kind of technology that will change the way the medicines work.
