Belgium is a country that us British holidaymakers know very little about. Despite being situated just across the channel, nestled in between two of our favourite holiday destinations, France and the Netherlands, it is not a country that we ascend upon in our droves, unlike a lot of European countries. This tendency to avoid little Belgium is somewhat of a mystery, especially as we enjoy eating their chocolates and drinking their beer so much. However, we shouldn’t worry too much about this, because it is the lack of tourism in the country that makes it such a special place to visit. To give you a rough idea of some of the highlights of the country here is some information about our top three cities: 1. Antwerp – This is a city that we have all heard of but know very little about. It is a beautiful harbour city that boasts the second biggest harbour in Europe. The river that runs through the city at some points reaches some 500m across creating some stunning scenes amidst what is a busy and vibrant place to visit. 2. Bruges – This is a city that some of you may have seen in the brutal film “in Bruges” starring Colin Farrell. If you have seen this movie, do not let it put you off visiting this fantastic city as the film was produced with a certain amount of artistic licence wining through. Bruges is thought to be the place most visited by tourists in Belgium with an estimated 2 million visitor coming to take in the stunning surrounding each year. The two key feature thought to be responsible for the lure of the city are its breath taking walled medieval town centre, and also its propensity for Bobbin lace which the city continue to produce to this day. 3. Brussels – The capital city of this fantastic country. Brussels is actually situated at the geographical middle of the country, putting it in the perfect position for a number of wars it has been part of throughout its history. This is the perfect city if you are looking to try out the local beers and chocolates both of which are heavenly and a must try during any stay in Belgium. Brussels is also home to the Belgian royal family and boasts the headquarters of NATO. There is a lot of history to take in and if you are interested in European politics, past present and future then Brussels really is the ideal city for you. Travelling on business?
