Doing physical activity is one of the best ways to get fit, lose weight and stay healthy. In deciding to play sports one has so many options to choose from and you can find a sport that suits your pace and which you can fit into your lifestyle around your job and other commitments. Joining a sports club of any sort is a positive move in your commitment to get healthy and stay healthy. There is a social aspect as well and it can be a great way to meet people in a new and unfamiliar town. The obvious sports one could suggest are rugby, football and cricket being the most widely played in the UK however there are a whole host of niche sports which place an emphasis on having fun while doing exercise. One sport which I had the pleasure of watching recently is the sport of Roller Derby. Think velodrome cycling crossed with a rugby scrum on roller skates and you won’t be too far off the mark. It is a fantastic sport and its ranks of players and fans are some of the most welcoming and fun people I have ever come into contact with. If you err on the side of more traditional sports then clubs which play one of the aforementioned “big three” can be found anywhere in the country and no matter where you go you can be assured you will be welcomed warmly no matter what your skill level. Once you get up to scratch and in shape you can start doing battle with the local teams helping to bragging rights for your team when you get down the pub afterwards. All sports carry a risk of injury as you push yourself to physical limit and it is advised that should you pick up any sort of injury, you allow your body time to heal before throwing yourself back into the fray as playing with injuries invariably results in yet more injury and a longer period of recovery so while you may itching to get back on the field it is always best to err on the side of caution and take it easy for a few days or weeks depending on the severity of the injury and, of course, should your injury be severe enough you should always seek medical attention as soon as it is possible to do so. So there it is: get fit, meet new people and, most important of all, have fun! If injuries are a worry for you then there are specialist insurance companies which offer coverage all manner of sports such as football insurance and hockey club insurance.
