In the physical realm, we are limited. Realistically, even if I get in the best shape, I’m not going to take off and fly. I can’t see into the future. If I could, I would bet the horses and games at full success. So the effort of prayer is an acknowledgement of something we already know, a reminder of our limitations, our fogginess, and our inability to both see near and far. Realistically, our real ability to input our vision and concerns or our goodwill towards distant people or land, is through prayer. Are there some evidences in some places that prayers are answered? People have had a feeling of peace come upon them later to learn at that exact time someone was praying for them. We see a direct link between the actual prayer and feeling of peace coming upon a person. In a person’s lifetime, if they set a goal of talking with all the people in China they couldn’t do this. Now, could they talk to as many a billion plus people in a day? But in prayer we can ask for every individual in that land of China today communicating your vision in a sense to a billion people in one day. Our assumptions whatever they are can only be called assumptions. We may throw out a prayer like we cast a bottle into the sea, assuming it would be a miracle that our message in a bottle gets answered. Prayer is our chance to reach out into the past or the future, if indeed this can be done; it is the pathway, out of our limitations of time and space. Could prayer affect change with the same power as the far reaching changes of distant times, or the sun? Can prayer ignite a long lasting fire, like lightning? In prayer, one can wear many hats. But one can possibility be a powerful advocate, bringing forth a vision for a people. Attorneys have argued for Clinton, Abraham argued for the innocent people, individuals he did not know, who they were and how many, but he did argue on their behalf to the Lord. And these were not known to be the holiest of people. Denying the reality of prayer, its workings and doings, maybe it’s as big a denial as denying your own form. We look at the ocean and its creatures, huge whales, and we see a mystery. As mysterious as the ocean is, we don’t deny its existence. Here and now our own inability to know the cause and effect of a prayer, doesn’t mean we can’t use this avenue. By asking people to pray, we are more asking them to pray with us. But the do it yourself aspect can not be ignored. The Bible doesn’t say, Israel prayed for this or that. It’s says Judah, Abraham, Moses prayed, Aaron prayed. Cornelius, the centurion, who’s prayers, had been heard. We don’t necessarily say Japan prayed for us, or Cuba, although this may also be true, but this person prayed for us. We can say Alex in Japan prayed for us, meaning all of us here in the U. S. So we can say Moses, the individual prayed for Israel. That the prayer could fall on an individual shows the power and the reach of one individual. Both the cause and effect of prayer can fall on either an individual or nation. From the Bible it says in James, “ If any among you is in trouble, he should pray.” So in the cross current, we see the troubled person should pray for himself, but also, that momentary strong call to prayer can be a pointer, to hey, you are in trouble. You’re swimming in rough waters. A strong call to prayer can also be a message regarding your own trouble, which must be acknowledged as needing the redress of prayer, as well as the monumental call of the prayer of the intercessor for others.
