Clairvoyant readings are performed by someone that has the power of clairvoyance. Clairvoyance is said to be the ability to see or sense things through means other than the use of the normal human senses. Clairvoyance, and the ability to perform clairvoyant readings, is a highly controversial subject between the people who believe in Extra Sensory Perception, and those that think there is no such thing. There have been documented events throughout history that support the existence of extra sensory perception. The ability for individuals to perform clairvoyant readings has been tested by many different research studies because of these documented events. Men of science want to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that extra sensory perception does not exist. Men of spiritual ways want to prove that these powers of perception do exist in some people. One of the first recorded clairvoyant readings was performed by the Marquis de Puysegur. The Marquis was performing readings on a person from the local village that was called Victor Race. Victor race was said to be mentally slow. During the readings Victor was reported to go into a trance like state. While in this state he was no longer mentally slow, but quite the contrary. Victor was extremely articulate and could diagnose his own mental shortcomings as well as the shortcomings of others. It is said that he offered advice as to ways to treat these conditions. When Victor was brought out of the trance like state he was once again mentally slow and unable to comprehend the things he had said or done just a few short minutes before. Remote viewing was the name for one of the most popular studies done to examine the validity of psychics performing clairvoyant readings. In these studies human subjects were tested to see if they could identify and describe features of remote locations. During these test conducted by Russell Targ and Harold Puthoff from the Stanford Research Institute, a person was sent to the remote location that the psychics would be trying to visualize and identify. The psychic participants were asked to try and see these remote locations in their mind. They were instructed to verbally describe what they saw to one of the researchers in the room, or they could make a sketch of what they saw while the researcher witnessed them drawing the sketch. Then judges were appointed to examine the descriptions the mediums gave of the location they saw and attempt to match those descriptions. By using this process Targ was convinced that a retired police commissioner named Pat Price was truly gifted with the powers of ESP.
