I have kept a journal for years and found in writing as much detail as I like to include about my day while keeping prying eyes at bay, that using common abbreviations for certain words while elaborating on others not only protects my much desired privacy, but has the added advantage of becoming like reading Greek to most other people who have attempted to decode my entries. Quite by accident and habit I have developed a code only I can comprehend, my every own unique signature writing if you will. Here is how it works. Now I am equally unsure when it all began and that is part of the mystery, even to me, though I can trace back over the last several years its inception into my routine memos and notetaking through my past reminiscences. From this I can literally watch the evolution of my cipher. In much the same way as your written word is your special hallmark and is difficult at best for someone else to duplicate exactly, so it is with the device that I have, out of an evolving tendency towards cryptic formulate, created. Part of the reason for my continued exploitation of this way of chronicling my descriptions was due to the particular design of the book itself. It's not fancy with all the whistles and bells of To Do Lists and Priority Boxes; rather it is just a simple page, standard diary with lots of room for my varied scribblings. I do appreciate the little icons to indicate the weather, as they require only a circle to record them. Even still, if you are anything like me you journalize everything of importance that represents events for each twenty-four hours. I usually have such items as when I pay bills (*), the amts. of ea. that are pd. down (-) and the bal. I have left (+); along with keeping a running total of what is left in my bank acct. ('). My agenda is busy with special occasions: holidays, b-days and A-days; you will find things like a D-out or Ms-in. App's are always distinguished and highlighted so I don't forget them and they can be easily checked off when completed. Then if we have any P's for the evenings or weekends, I can enter them separately. Since I live w. my H and my M-in-L, I dutifully add undertakings that concern L; as she is 92years young I keep track of who is doing what for her and mark off when the other L, this one a D-in-L as well, is doing things for her that I don't have to involve myself in. M works wks and every second wknd so I jot down his T's for his "B" and make a L for M to give to his "B" @ the end of ea. mo., that way, both know where they stand @ the end of the mo. And I observe the more mundane happenings too, making my L to go sh. w. or checking off my e list when finished sending them. If there comes a day when I am ill, I am s. w. @ C. and not PL'd about it! By composing in this fashion, I keep my script to a min. on ea. Pg. thereby conserving sp. If I am in a particularly ruffled mood, my documentation takes on a life of its own and becomes utterly unintelligible to the average layman and to the pt. where even I have to ponder for clues as to what on earth I was talking to myself about. I must don the proverbial cap and become S.H. himself to discover my own meanings, so it does have its drawbacks if you get too carried away and it gets too complicated. Its just one of the more subtle ways of transcribing in your daytimer while employing a singular means of championing one's reticence; imagine being able to leave your journal or diary anywhere you want and not having to concern yourself as to who would open and read its contents. They couldn't make head or tail of it anyway! My H was looking for something I had entered some time ago and I seriously had to laugh when watching his facial expressions go from understanding, when he first opened my daybook, through a progression of everything from mouthing the abstractions to frowning, then from grimace to scowl as he endeavored to penetrate what he was reading. Whether by chance or deliberation, it's a simple way to keep your secrets secret. Give it a try and see what you come up with but be warned, it is highly addictive. Have fun! Oh and by the way, u. r. too bee @ h. when you practice this & keep it secret. After a long sojourn, I am back. Having moved from one end of Canada to the other in a seven day road trip which you could not pay me to repeat, I have moved with my husband from Alberta to a new life on Prince Edward Island. I may live on the Island but to the born Islanders I am and probably will forever be from 'away'. Lucky thing my hubby is an Islander! dissertation service
