The center for student information has reduced its transcriptprocessing period from seven to 10 days to five to seven days,Director Elizabeth Garza said during Tuesday s AcademicAccountability and Student Success Committee meeting in Killen Center. We ve really improved our track record as we ve moved along, she said during the presentation. A total of 81,139 transcripts were sent out between April 1, 2011,and March 31, she reported. According to her presentation, 34,167 transcripts were processedfrom this college, 11,067 transcripts from St. Philip s, 1,163transcripts from Northeast Lakeview, 23,736 from Northwest Vistaand 11,006 from Palo Alto. I would just like to recognize CSI for their work, District 6trustee Gene Sprague said after Garza s presentation. This is atremendous improvement over what we ve seen. The center, located at 8300 Pat Booker Road, was established inspring 2010 to process academic transcripts, student applicationsand academic and continuing education record reports. Martin Ortega, director of enrollment services, said Thursday thatbefore the implementation of Banner, students were able to requestindividual transcripts from the colleges. Each college was responsible for its academic records, he said. Before Banner, students who attended more than one college had torequest individual transcripts from each college. Turnaround time was about two to three business days, he said. Because CSI is responsible for academic records, We now have oneoffice handling requests for five colleges, Ortega said. Garza told The Ranger Thursday, Banner was a new system, and thewhole process of centralizing the transcript process was new. Wejust got better at it; it was a learning process, since this was anew system. She said before she was hired as CSI director Feb. 1, she was anadministrator for Edgewood Independent School District. As of today, 17 full-time employees, including Garza, are employedat CSI. Over time, we ve improved our processes and learned the system alittle better. And so, we were able to have a better turn-aroundtime. Garza said she hopes CSI will be able to reducetranscript-processing time even further for the 2012-13 academicyear. At a Dec. 1 student forum with Chancellor Bruce Leslie, biomedicalsophomore Christian Giron said it took the district eight months to send his transcript toTexas A&M University at College Station. The university did not accept Giron because it did not receive his transcript on time, he said. According to Garza s presentation, 34,715 incoming transcriptswere processed during the same period. A total of 16,585 transcripts came from incoming high schoolswith14,688 were sent through regular mail and 3,442 transcriptswere submitted electronically. She said transcripts are entered in Banner within the semester theyare received, but the time they are processed varies on the amountof information they give.
