The art of writing has undergone extensive development over the ages and so has the nature of writing instruments. The writing instruments have undergone change to suit every comfort of the users according to the age and requirement of the time. Universal ball point pen with its advantages overtook ink pens a long time back and nowadays ink pens have become a rare sight. Ball point pens definitely have a large number of advantages over these pens and that is the reason for its popularity and why people accepted it readily. Its easy availability and affordable price is one of the main reason for its success. In addition to that, the superior writing quality and easily usable feature is a big advantage of ball point pens. The cartridge does not require regular filling as it comes for many many days even when frequently used as opposed to ink pen which needs filling of ink often. The amount of maintenance required for ball point pen is very minimum. Ball point pens have made it possible to overcome may of the short comings with them. Ink filling regularly is one such problem. The quality of ink pen depends very much on the quality of the tip. Only a good quality nib ensures smooth writing and one has to train an ink pen according to his style like training a dog. Even after so much effort, it may not be possible to write on some kinds of papers with an ink pen owing to the rough surface of the paper which causes blotting and scratchy writing too. One fall is enough to repair an ink pen. One slip of the hand is enough to damage the nib of the pen permanently. So an ink pen always needs constant care and maintenance. A ball point pen over comes all such problems and is very much easy to use. Even if the ink gets over, it is easy to refill the cartridge and it comes for many days without needing a refill again. It enhances the quality of writing. With a ball point pen it is possible to write fast and fluently and the quality of the writing is definitely better. The ink used in a universal ball point pen is an oil based viscous liquid which spreads evenly along the paper giving a sharp writing. It does not blot or smudge so easily and is very comfortable to write with. Gel pen, roller tip pens, pens with a comfortable rubber padding to facilitate the holding of the pen etc are mentionable advancements in ball point pens that have taken place to make writing a much more enjoyable experience. writers job
