A former steelworker in Buffalo, New York was awarded $25 million by a federal jury in damages after years of harassment and racial discrimination in his workplace, according to the Huffington post. Elijar Turley, and African American, worked at an ArcelorMittal facility and reportedly suffered years of abuse. In his testimony, Turley said coworkers would write graffiti on the walls reading “KKK” and “King Kong.” “It’s absolutely shocking that a case like this is in court in 2012,” said Ryan J. Mills, the attorney representing Turley. “It should be viewed as atrocious and intolerable in a civilized society. This case is about the breakdown of a man. He wanted to be treated equally, treated equally in a culture that hadn’t changed since the 1950’s.” Doug Silverstein, Kesluk & Silverstein .
