Now that summer has officially arrived, it is time to start checking off things on that list of stuff you wanted to do this summer. If you are like most Americans, going to the amusement park is probably on that list of yours. While the amusement park is highly entertaining, there is a giant downside: its cost. Nowadays, with visits to an amusement park costing upwards of $350- approximately $250 of that going towards ticket costs alone- for a family of four, in this tougher economy, it is beginning to feel as though it is wiser and more cost-effective putting that money towards a vacation rather than a day visit to an amusement park. But there is a way you can have just as much, if not more, fun as you would at a theme park at a fraction of the cost. The state of the recent economy has reduced the disposable incomes of most American families, the result being tighter budgets on everyday things and even tighter budgets on non-essential items such as entertainment and recreational activities. With summer upon us, more and more families are finding that it is much more economical to spend the day at the fair than at an amusement park- much more economical. Even for families that have allocated money to spend on a days-long stay at an amusement park’s resort hotel are finding that it is much more budget-savvy to stay at non-resort hotels, with some finding ways to save money even while staying at more high-end Costa Mesa hotels, and others finding even more ways to save by visiting the fair instead of the amusement park. Some might argue that it is worth visiting an amusement park for the rides, but with amusement park ticket prices usually being ten to fifteen times the amount of a county or state fair and with rides at the fair getting better and faster each year, it actually seems rather difficult to effectively argue that amusement park rides are worth the cost of admission into an amusement park. An advantage of going to the fair rather than the amusement park is the food. Yes, there might be “themed” food available at an amusement park, but there is sure to be an more vast array in the types of food, the healthiness of the food, and the cost of the food at the fair rather than at the amusement park since more often than not, fairs have a section in which local farmers and gardeners can showcase and sell their vegetable and fruit products. With all the money you can save by going to the fair than the amusement park, you could arrange to stay at one of the many luxurious hotels in Costa Mesa, spend the next day at the fair, and still have money left over to spend on anything else your heart desires.
