In September every year, the Auto Glass Safety Council holds a conference for the windshield repair industry to convene in one location. Here, business owners learn all about the updates and ongoings of the industry. Anything new in the world of windshield repair takes place here. This is also where companies send their best windshield repair technicians to duke it out and be declared the “World’s best Windshield Repair Technician.” About the Conference The conference convenes with industry professionals from all around the globe. In 2012, the conference will take place in Louisville, Ky. Each year, windshield repair professionals come together to discuss industry standards, shifts and new innovations. The event is mostly made up of educational seminars on how to run a safer, better business. The convention centers around a trade show floor where participants can take part in demonstrations, test out the latest products available and spectate the windshield repair and replacement competitions. There are two windshield repair olympics that take place at the conference - the annual Pilkinton Clear Advantage Auto Glass Technician Olympics and the annual Walt Gorman Memorial Windshield Repair Olympics. The competition is judged off of a windshield repair technicians customer treatment, professionalism and conduct, vehicle prep, products, repair technique and post-repair procedures. The gold-medal winner receives $10,000 and his or her medal. The second place technician gets $1,000 and a silver medal, and third place gets $500 and a bronze medal. About the Council A not-for-profit organization, the Auto Glass Safety Council is devoted to the safety and prospering of the windshield repair world. The council was founded by multiple companies and those companies continue to support the council today with safe and proper installations at the top of their agenda. The council is accredited as an organization through the American NAtional Standards Institute. The goal of the council is to make safer every windshield repair and replacement through creating standards and accrediting the industries businesses and educating them among other things such as creating standards and a code of ethics for the industry. The council has created a standard that it encourages all windshield repair facilities and businesses to follow. It includes raising the level of professionalism of technicians and businesses, provide a guide on procedures for businesses, guidelines for suppliers, promote the need for safe procedures during installation for public awareness, and achieve a hire degree of consistency among installation practices, among other things.
