Once a young man felt frustrated and went to visit a sage. After graduating from university, once had established many goals for himself, but he achieved nothing for several years. When he found the sage, he was reading in a cabin besides the river, in which the water was very clear and the stones were shimmering under the sunshine. After hearing the young man’s complaint, the sage smiled and said, “Come on and help me boil a kettle of water!” The young man saw a huge kettle at the corner of wall and a small fireplace was besides it, but he didn’t find firewood, so he had to look for it outside. He picked some deadwoods back, filled a pot of water, put it on the fireplace and took some firewood inside the fireplace. Since the kettle was so large that the firewood were burned out quickly, but the water didn’t boil. So he rushed out to look for wood again, but the pot water had been almost cool. This time he became clever. Instead of igniting fire anxiously, he went out and looked for more wood. Because he prepared enough fire wood that the water got boiling soon. “If you don’t have enough wood, how can you boil water?” The sage asked him suddenly. The young man thought for a while and shook his head. “If so, you should poor some water out of the kettle!” The sage said. Upon hearing that, the young man nodded his head thoughtfully. “At the beginning you were complacent and established too many goals, just like this large kettle filled with too much water, but you don’t have enough fire, so you can’t boil water. If you want to boil water, you should poor some water out or prepare more wood firstly.” The sage said again. The young man was suddenly enlightened. When he return home, he cut off many goals from his original plan and only left several aims. Meanwhile, he made full use of his spare time to study different kinds of professional knowledge. After several years, his goals came true basically. After reading this story, I have realized that we should pick up wood continuously so as to warm and boil our life all the time.
