Once a competitive girl was very weak in her childhood that she was in the last place when running in PE class, which make her upset and hate sport. At the time, her mother would comfort her “It doesn’t matter, you are the youngest, and so you can run slowly. But you must keep in mind that you should outrun one classmate each time.” The little girl nodded her hand and remembered her mother’s words. And when she ran again, she made her every effort to run after her classmate in front of her. As a consequence, she ran much faster and gradually became interested in sport. Later, her mother extended the notion of “outrunning one classmate each time” to her studies by telling her that if she could outrun one of her classmates in each exam, then she will be exceptional!” Guided by her mother’s educational notion, the girl graduated from Peking University in 2001 and then was admitted by Harvard University to a full scholarship. Who is she? She is Zhu Cheng, who helped and directed a team of nine art students to recreate the Venus De Milo statue out of feces. After wards, she majored in Master’s degree and doctor’s degree in Harvard. During her PhD ‘studies, she was elected as the general president of Harvard Graduate Association which was in charge of 13000 postgraduate students in 11 graduate colleges. She was the first Chinese student to occupy this position in Harvard 370’s history, which caused a great sensation. To be honest, unlike other great truths, the notion “outrunning one classmate each time” seems easy for us to understand and take actions. It is no deny that it is not difficult to stimulate children’s confidence and high spirits. Though the goal is small, it is specific. When achieving this goal, students concentrate on it and do it carefully and solidly. In the process of achieving small successes again and again, students again recognition and praises from their parents, teachers and friends, so they will gradually achieve bigger successes and set up successful careers. Sometimes, a sentence will ruin a person’s confidence and even destroy his hope of existence, but sometimes a sentence will encourage a person to overcome difficulties and change his whole life.
