Emergent Literacy means learning for growing children that learned reading and writing. It is developmental process of a child in growing years. From birth, a person undergoes different changes physically, emotionally and mentally. In psychology, there are stages of development according to age. There are conflicts to growth in every stage. A baby needs affection during the early years. Trust is established during these years. The conflict that will occur is trust versus mistrust. Establishing trust during infant years is through touch and skin to skin contact. Knowing the presence of the care giver will be known by the infant and will be at ease and will stop crying In cognitive development, emergent literacy takes place. A baby can learn step by step. Literacy is all about speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing. A child can first mumble words at six months of life. Then more words are learned eventually during toddler years. A baby can listen to his or her environment and surroundings. At four mouths, the baby can recognize faces of his or her parents and knows his or name when called. Speech development develops at around one year of age. It also depends on the environment of the child is living. Social relationship of child to others also affects the speech development. When there are also many children living in the house, then speech is faster than a child living with adults. Reading is one complicated part of emergent literacy. When starting to read, it is important to learn the letters of the alphabet and numbers as well. A three year old can recite the letters of the alphabet and numbers. Writing skills can also be developed in the most possible early time. At the age of three, a toddler can memorize and write the letters of the alphabet. Learning continues to grow when a person also grow. From simple subjects to complicated one. Difficult subjects are also learned on the later part. Emergent literacy continues until when we grow up.
