I have been a proud member of the LMCC, an amateur cricket club based in West Sussex, since I was a teenager. Cricket has been one of my main interests since I was a young lad and I have been fanatically supporting it ever since. For the past five years I have been playing with my father’s old cricket bat, which he had custom made for his own specifications a couple of years ago. When the bat gave in after serving in our family for over a decade, I decided nothing but only the best of the best was worthy of replacing it. Some of my team mates recommended me some of the well known sports brands like Adidas and Puma bats. But personally I was looking for something a little more traditional and was hoping to find a company who was known for their custom made cricket bats. I soon came across two traditionally English cricket bat companies, named Heritage Cricket and Woodstock Cricket. Heritage Cricket is a traditional cricket bat company which was set up early 2010 in Lincolnshire. The company is mainly known for its two popular bats, the Spitfire and the Typhoon. Despite Heritage Cricket being a traditional cricket company, it was Woodstock whose work really stood out for me. Their company website and traditional bat making process was something I really supported.Woodstock’s cricket bat maker, John New some, launched the company at the start of the 2012 season and has been making each bat himself in a workshop in his back garden. I soon made an appointment for a bespoke service and a few days later I was witnessing the beautiful art of cricket bat making with my very own eyes. I watched as John New some carefully sanded the cricket bats and worked his way through 25 individual processes before giving the bat it’s final polish. The whole process took over five hours to complete, and at the end of the day I was finally allowed to knock in my new bat. I have been playing with my bespoke Woodstock cricket bat for a number of months now and it is definitely the best bat I have ever used. It prides me to know the love and care that went in to my bat and that unlike all the other members of my team, my bat was made the traditional way and is absolutely unique!
