IT is and always has been a backbone of the businesses and different tasks in a person’s daily routine. IT and the support from the ICT network have always intrigued the users all around the globe. With not only hardware, but also software and application systems, IT has ruled the entire markets in any field. Marketing, communications, HR, Accounts, Finance, Telecom, Engineering, Metallurgy, Geology, Bio informatics etc, all field owe their advancements to the field of IT. In the early 1960’s when the first computer came in the market, it was as large as a room and had the tendency to process only 10 transactions in binary and hexadecimal coding with the help of punch cards. Memory details were only in Kilobytes and Megabytes. There was no concept of Terabytes or more. The start of the 80’s era came in with the new technology of artificially advanced and intelligent systems. Now, the era of virtual reality has overcome the possible problems in the daily life routine. Technology has done it, and up until now, the tasks defined and done by machines are much faster and accurate than the manual work. Let me give you an example of such super artificially intelligent systems and software: Human Resource Information System (HRIS): These system and software refer to the intersection between the processes of the Human Resources Management and the Information Technology. This concept merges the basic principles of HR, with the field of IT in such a way that now automated systems and software run the HR commands in very low cost in any organization with higher precision and accuracy of results. The HRIS has evolved from the technological intervention of the ERP (enterprise resource planning) and, it is a sub part of it. The ERP for HRIS integrates different functions of the Human Resources Management into one main resource so that there are no information silos and the uniqueness of data is intact. It has access to the universal database systems so that the authorized personals are able to access the data, use it, update it, and there is still one unique copy of the data applicable in the sub database systems. HRIS functionality The major functions that the HRIS system covers are as under: 1) Payroll 2) Time calculation and attendance record 3) Recruitment details 4) Performance management 5) Appraisal system 6) Performance criteria and matching up with requirements 7) Compensation criteria 8) Employee based self service functionality 9) Absentee management 10) Scheduling of tasks 11) Defining and matching up goals with criteria set in performance management etc. The HRIS also works on the talent management and controlling. This has eased up a lot of cost for the manual HR processes and the time is also saved. Apart from that, clarity in the processes with lesser percentage of errors is accomplished.
