Countries around the world are making plans to counterfoil global climate changes by investing in sustainable living sources. But one fact that cannot be ignored is that oil is the lifeline for us humans. Every day we burn millions of barrels of oil to make & run all kinds of products from plastics, pharmaceuticals to food. However, what will happen when we run out of fuel in the next 50 to 70 years, as oil production is set to decline in the next five years? No oil or minimum supply will have a devastating effect on civilization, especially countries who are the largest consumers of fossil fuels. There have been many predictions on how the human race would survive without the availability of basic fossil fuels like oil. Yet, by God’s grace and technological advancements have given us the time and choice to find alternative means to power our world. * Windpower is harnessing naturally occurring wind’s energy to drive turbines to generate electrical energy. As the speed of wind grows in strength, so does the electrical output. In places that have strong, steady winds such as sea or tall hillsides, the output of electrical energy is even higher. These locations are preferred to set up a wind farm. * Alternatively, humans could try to exploit the energy from water through hydropower which captures reasonably huge amounts of energy since it is 800 times denser than air. Hydroelectricity requires the vast resource of the dams but micro hydro systems, flowing river systems and ocean energy work well without the need for dams. Hydropower works well where there is enough supply of water. * Solar power is a widely used renewable source of green energy offering benefits like no other. Since, the sun will be supplying us with free energy for the next billions of years, it should be utilized at its maximum benefit. Capturing solar energy and making it functional to run electrical appliances require large solar panels which are sometimes expensive. Also, the unavailability of the sun’s energy at night and on cloudy days makes it difficult to maintain a consistent flow of power. But research is going on trapping daytime sun’s energy for night usage. There are many other alternatives to oil such as Biofuel and Biomass which make the use of plants to derive renewable source of energy and fuel. Many analysts believe that we will never run out of oil despite the diminishing supply. So, even if we do run out of oil, there are many alternatives which need to develop and make them widely available & affordable. As of now, oil prices continue to rise burning a hole in our pocket.
