First up, one of the best ways that Nintendo approached the power consumption problem was by first taking a look at the back lighting, given the fact that this was using the most power on a regular basis. They discovered that the liquid-crystal balance was blocking the images that one’s eyes saw while in 3D, reducing the efficiency of the light, therefore if you could decrease the amount of light that was blocked you could reduce the amount of back light that the device needed to operate. In the end, the company discovered that there were alternative ways to transmit light and control the amount of light that was emitted and with a few adaptations they were able to strike the perfect balance. Given the fact that this technology was new, it took a lot of adjustments to fit with the LCD specs, but as a result Nintendo was able to solve not only the back lighting problem, but they were able to fix problems with battery life and screen brightness at the same time, making it one of the best tech upgrades for the new model. Another feature that should be recognizable from the very moment that you pick up the new Nintendo 3DS XL is the fact that it comes with a new anti-reflection technology. Nintendo has solved this problem by creating a new anti-reflection surface for the 3DS XL that makes use of all three reflective layers on the LCD screen. All three of these layers usually are partially to blame for the glare, so instead of just treating the top layer Nintendo treated all three of the layers allowing the reflectivity to be reduced down to about three percent instead of the old 12%. Nintendo engineers stated that anti-reflectivity has actually been a problem for quite some time, but it was not a problem they could treat due to cost constraints until now when technology has finally caught up with intent.
