Here's a list of movies soaked in the spirit of freedom and patriotism and we're sure you'll love them! 1. Rang De Basnti Irrespective of how many times you have watched RDB, the movie still gives you goose-bumps. This journey of college lads maturing into men who rediscover the patriotic streak, which they lost to the materialistic world touches you instantly. Highly inspiring and truly motivating, Rang De Basanti is mordern day ode to our freedon fighters. Worth watching for: The Boys - Aamir Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Siddhartha, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan 2. Chak De India The movie is neither a tribute to freedom fighters nor based on a war. But still, when you watch our Indian Hockey players making it real big on the International sports scene, you are filled by a sense of joy, pride and patriotism. Thus, making it a perfect I-Day watch. Worth watching for: Shahrukh Khan 3. Border Touted as one of the best war-movies made in Bollywood in last 50 years, Border captures the real life incidents of the India-Pakistan war of 1971. But that's not where the beauty of this cinematic masterpiece ends. The way it amalgamates the emotional upheaval of a soldier who chooses his mother land over his mother, the eagerness of a lonely mother and the ever waiting beloved makes Border the best patriotic movie. Worth watching for: Director J.P.Dutta's perfect depictionof the era. 4. Lagaan There's no high for an Indian than the high for beating the firang gang, then be it in a war or in a cricket match. And that's precisely the reason we love Lagaan. Didn't your heart went out for Kachra? Didn't your heart skip a beat when Bhuvan [Aamir] was about to hit the last ball? Despite knowing that the match was staged and India would win, were you not doing your silent prayers for the home team? That's patriotism! Worth watching for? The killer instinct to win among the villagers that was beyond any caste, creed or religion and Aamir's stupendous performance. 5.Gandhi, My Father Produced by Anil Kapoor, this movie sheds light on the distressed relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi, played by Akshaye Khanna. The movie was applauded at many reputed award functions. Director Feroze Abbas Khan won the National Award for Best Screenplay; Anil Kapoor took home the Critics award for Best film at the Zee Cine Awards. Worth watching for: Astounding screenplay and the not much talked phases of Gandhi’s life. 6. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero When a film-maker like Shyam Benegal is upto something – a gem is expected. And this National Award winning movie starring Sachin Khedekar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Rajit Kapur, Arif Zakaria, and Divya Dutta was indeed a gem of an epic. The movie is an intense depiction of the last five years of Bose’ life and some instances of great importance. From Bose’s resignation from Indian National Congress (I.N.C.) to romancing his German secretary and appointment with Adolf Hitler in Berlin, to battle in Burma, his inspiring speeches and the radio announcement of his death – the movie weaves it all to make it a tell all tale about Bose. Worth watching for: Sachin Khedekar’s depth as an actor. 7. Road to Sangam A devoted Muslim mechanic played by Paresh Rawal has been asked to repair an old V8 ford engine not knowing that it once carried the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi, which were immersed in the holy river 'Sangam'. A powerful bomb blast in his city leads to the arrest of Muslim youths of his locality. What will he choose now? The strike to work called in to protest against the arrest or continue to repair of the engine? That’s the journey – road to Sangam. Journey of Gandhian values, principles and patriotism. Worth watching for: Paresh Rawal’s performance 8. Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Mammootty, who played the title role of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar won the National Film Award for Best Actor for this movie directed by Jabbar Patel. The movie won the National Award for Best Feature Film. If these reasons aren’t enough to make this a must watch, here are some more. The film talks about the life of Ambedkar, who rises from the community of untouchables and work towards their upliftment. How his ideologies clash with Gandhi and yet win his heart is something to watch out for in the movie. Worth watching for: Mammooty’s portrayal of Babasaheb Ambedkar.
