Recently, Digital Lumens Intelligent LED PL Light System has supported Silver Beauty, a Chicago-area company thatbuilds and leases warehouses for lighting retrofit in a 177,413-square foot facility. Previously, the facility used 1,000-Watt high-intensity dischargelamps, which were replaced with the Digital Lumens 18,000-lumenintelligent fixtures, all with integrated occupancy and daylightharvesting sensors. The project rebate was provided by ComEd underits Smart Ideas program. In the Silver Beauty facility, the Digital Lumens systemautomatically provides the target illumination required when thespace is occupied, then dims to 40% in well-traveled aisles, and10% elsewhere for security purposes, when a space is unoccupied.Lighting instantaneously turns back on when personnel, such as arapidly moving forklift operator, trigger an occupancy sensor.Because the Digital Lumen fixtures have integrated daylightsensors, they assess available ambient light and dim or turn offwhen enough natural light is present. On sunny days, skylightsprovide up to 40% of the lighting needed to illuminate thewarehouse.
Since installation, the new LED-based industrial lighting systemhas reduced the facility's $78,335 annual lighting costs by 90%, tojust under $4,078 or 3.9? per square foot, while deliveringbrighter, higher quality light for its tenant's 24x7 warehousingoperations.
