Supplier Haldor Topsoe has selected Honeywell company UOP to install technology at the Antipinsky Refinery in Russia thatwill recover and purify hydrogen to help produce cleaner fuels more efficiently. Refineries(pictured) use hydrogen in the hydrofracking process to convertheavy oil to lighter, higher value products such as transportationfuels. The new hydrogen unit, which is scheduled to start up in2013, is part of the refinery's plan to increase its capacityof crude oil processing by as much as 7 million tons per year. The unit also will allow the refinery to produce fuels that meetthe European Union's Euro-5 standards aimed at reducingemissions from light-duty vehicles. A subsidiary of the Babcock & Wilcox Company has been awarded contracts valued at about $55 million to design and supply environmental control equipment and engineera boiler economizer for Consumer Energy' s J.H. Campbell Generating Complex in Michigan. B&W will supplyfour spray dry absorber systems to controls sulfur dioxideemissions for the 835-megawatt Campbell Unit 3. The company alsowill supply lime preparation systems and ash handling systems forthe plant. Last month, Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County gave B&W Power Generation Group notice to proceed with the engineering, design and construction ofa waste-to-energy power plant . The contract was valued at $668 million . Energy Focus was awarded several lighting retrofit contracts totaling $2 million including a project to upgrade a Fortune 500 manufacturingfacility. Other contracts include lighting retrofits at severallocations of a large hospital complex; a project at a schooldistrict in the Northeast US as well as a community college andstate building complex in the Midwest. Energy Focus has completedaudits of the facilities, taken inventory of their lightingsystems, created an energy savings design for the contracts and isnow acquiring the materials and overseeing the installations. The Manufacturers' Association of South Central Pennsylvania has signed a three-year agreement choosing Constellation as its endorsed energy supplier. Constellation, a business unit of Exelon , can now supply energy products and services to member companiesof MASCPA, a regional employers' organization. MASCPA hasmore than 350 member companies in the south central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland area. Keyservices include Constellation's "Efficiency Made Easy" program , which bundles the cost of energy efficiency upgrades with powersupply and load response. The program allows businesses to earnrevenue for curbing electricity use during periods of peak demand. SmartGrid CIS will support a prepay pilot program for residential customers inthe Town of Wake Fores t in North Carolina. Wake Forest Power , the electric utilities division of Wake Forest, will use theSmartGrid CIS Express platform for the pilot. SmartGrid CISExpress will be deployed as a standalone prepay billing/CISsolution and will provide the Wake Forest customer service teamwith account management, customer notifications, automated metercontrol and meter data retrieval and real-time payment processingservices. CLEAResult , the Austin, Texas company that designs and implements utilityenergy efficiency programs, will use building efficiencysoftware company Retroficiency ‘s automated energy audit (AEA) to reduce the timerequired to audit hundreds of buildings , as part of a multi-year agreement between the two companies. Retroficiency developed customizedreports to allow CLEAResult to make detailed calculations ofefficiency and retrofit measures for submission to utilities forcommercial efficiency rebate programs. The AEA will allowCLEAResult to cut audit expenses by 80 percent for its 200 utility programs in 25 states. Calpine Energy Services has signed a power purchase agreement to provide Southwestern Public Services Co. , a subsidiary of Xcel Energy , with an additional 200 megawatts of capacity and energy from its Oneta Energy Center in Oklahoma. The PPA with SPS will be from June 2014 to May 2019.Calpine already supplies 200 megawatts of capacity and energy fromthe Oneta Energy Center, a combined cycle power plant capable, toSPS under a separate seven-year PPA that began in January 2012. Ameresco was awarded an energy performance contract with Miami-Dade County through the Public Housing and Community Development Department . Ameresco will perform a a facility-wide audit of energy and wateruse and then provide recommendations on how to reduce the $8.6 million that Miami-Dade spends on utilities each year in public housing.Pending approval from the county and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development , Ameresco will manage the design and implementation of theretrofit installation to reduce energy and water use.
