Movie Synopsis: The Teen Patti film stars some of the big names in the business with Amitabh Bachchan (Big B) portraying the character of Venkat, while Ben Kingsely is our Perci. The role of younger professor is played by Madhavan. Teen Patti, a thriller, begins when Perci Trachtenberg, renowned mathematician meets Venkat Subramaniam, a withdrawn mathematician from India at a casino in London. During their conversation, Venkat reveals about his discovery of secret equation capable of redefining the principles of probability and randomness. Egged on by an ambitious young colleague Shantanu, Venkat decides to apply this theory in the real world. Despite his lack of interest in the money that may accrue from practicing the equation to solve Teen Patti, Venkat gives into the temptation of experimenting with the formula. Thus, he collaborates with five of his brilliant students to play with his equation. Once prompted by greed, the experiment pushes their lives into a mess and out of control. Both these professors careers are at risk following an investigation into a tragedy strikes that shakes them morally. Back in London casino, Perci is able to comprehends Venkat's theory examining the idea of what is random - and what fated. It is with Perci that the film concludes the essence of equations of honor and change, and information that can change the world. Movie review: The movie has all the ingredients for it to find appeal with the masses. It has Amitabh Bachchan, Sir Ben Kingsley and R Madhavan. It is a thriller and is about a game that is a favourite pastime of the people especially during Diwali. It has stars like Ajay Devgan, Jackie Shroff and Shakti Kapoor, even though their role might appear as if they just walked across one frame, they are there. So, what we have is a professor of Mathematics, Venkat Subramaniam (Amitabh Bachchan) who is a genius. Unfortunately, each of the papers that he submits keeps getting rejected. However, this does not stop him from doing what he loves – teaching and keep coming up with more brilliant papers. One such paper finds its application in the real world in the form of an experiment with his students and an ambitious young professor Shantanu (R Madhavan). But, what started off as an experiment soon turns into a game that takes each of them deeper in a world that is filled with crime, sleaze and greed. And we all know what happens when greed takes precedence. Guns are drawn, quite literally. Instead of pens in their hands they start waving guns. Innocence is lost, love has no place and friendship no value. Greed becomes God! As the movie unfolds, there is a nagging sense that something is missing. First, the storyline itself – not that there is anything wrong in making a movie that revolves around gambling. The problem is that it keeps revolving on the same point. It doesn’t move forward. The only thing that changes is the backdrop. From local gaming addas to the swanky gaming places to the private gaming scenario. Second, due to its repetitiveness the movie looses speed and diluting the thriller. Third, the songs are not worth a dime. What works for the movie is the performance of Big B. As an eccentric-genius Mathematics professor who talks to Albert Einstein during his breaks from the equations, Amitabh Bachchan is brilliant. He has proved that he still has many more movies in him. His conversation with Sir Ben Kingsley, a magician turned mathematician are riveting. In fact, it is this that forms the backbone of Teen Patti. However, one would wish that Sir Ben Kingsley would have played a more active role.
