Many writers do not share their writing with the world. They hide it away in a cave where it will never see the light of day. The main factor here is the human psyche and how acceptance and rejection affects individuals. Some deal with this better than others; these are usually the people with more confident personality types. What is my point? You, as a writer, need to realize that not everyone will like you, what you write, or how you write it. Yes, this is the life of a writer and a fact of life in general. Do you remember your first driving lesson? Your instructor was probably a family member, trusted friend, or a not so willing participant. Your nervousness coupled with their apprehension just added to the anxiety of the experience. Yet, after a few lessons, some trial and error, and a few close calls, you built your confidence and could manage on your own. Building your confidence isn't easy. It takes practice, and the understanding that you will make mistakes. If you can stay open minded about what you write, you will be well on your way to being critiqued, rejected and maybe even loved by thousands or millions of people. Here are 3 things you can do to help you gain confidence as a writer: Create a pen name: Many authors have pen names. Either they think their name doesn't sound like an author's, or they are trying to market themselves to a certain audience. These factors may be true for you, but a pen name also serves as a buffer to the world around you. If you lack confidence, use a pen name. It will allow you to display your work publicly without the risk of someone knowing it was actually you who wrote that great novel which has now sold millions. Practice: Just write! Write about anything and everything. You can give yourself writing tasks. Describe your computer monitor or the pen you are writing with. Keep a daily journal. The important thing to remember is that it doesn't matter what you write about. As you write about the simplest or most obscure things, you will develop perspective and gain confidence .You will eventually conclude that writing isn't difficult, that it is a skill that needs to be developed through practice. Share: You must share your work! Show anyone around you; email it, blog about it, post it on forums, send a copy to your grandma! It doesn't matter how you share it, just share it. Why you ask...? 1. Because you have a pen name! 2. You need feedback and this is how you get it. Make sure you ask for the harshest, most in-depth and honest feedback. Just remember that you'll never be able to make everyone happy. Everyone has their own perspectives which will affect how much they enjoy your writing. If you are willing to let people read your work, critique it, and hopefully even explain why they like it so much, you are well on your way to becoming a better writer with the confidence to continue writing. You will develop a thick skin that is ready for any sort of dialogue. The most important thing to remember is to welcome all criticism, the good and the bad. Use the positive feedback to boost your confidence and use the negative feedback to improve, but don't take it as personal attack. buy thesis
